Ana Ivanovic wins last WTA Finals match, but Simona Halep moves into semi-finals

Ana Ivanovic ends her season with a victory over Simona Halep, but the latter qualifies for the semi-finals of the WTA Finals in Singapore.

Ana Ivanovic clinched victory in her last WTA Finals round robin match, but has failed to reach the semi-finals of the tournament.

Despite securing a 7-6(7) 3-6 6-3 victory, Ivanovic's season is over as Simona Halep books her place in the final four following two victories and a defeat.

Both players struggled to hold serve in the opening set as they were broken three times each, which forced the set into a tie-break, but it was Ivanovic who edged it 9-7.

The second set was a less hectic affair, but Halep was able to respond to force the match into a decider with two breaks of serve.

It was a tight contest in the third set, but Ivanovic ended her season with a victory by grabbing the only break of the set to beat Halep in Singapore.

Halep will take on Agnieszka Radwanska in the next round, while Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki will go head to head for a spot in the final.
