Stanislas Wawrinka wary of Juan Martin del Potro threat

Stanislas Wawrinka admits that he is wary of the threat posed by Juan Martin del Potro in the second round of Wimbledon.

Stanislas Wawrinka has admitted that he is wary of the threat posed to him by Juan Martin del Potro in the second round of Wimbledon.

Wawrinka needed four sets to overcome Taylor Fritz in his opening match at SW19 this year, while Del Potro beat Stephane Robert in his first Wimbledon appearance since 2013.

The injury-plagued Argentine is currently ranked 165th in the world, but Wawrinka still regards the 2009 US Open winner as a "great champion".

"For me it's going to be interesting to play against him. It's been many years that I didn't play against him. Didn't practise neither," he told reporters.

"For sure I think we are all happy that he's back on the tour, hopefully without any injury, and hope that he can play for long now.

"He [has] always been a great champion, a great player to watch also. It's going to be a tough match. He has a big serve, big forehand. When you see how tall he is, it's tough to push him, so powerful."

Wawrinka has never made it past the quarter-finals at Wimbledon, whereas Del Potro reached the last four in 2013.
