Tomas Berdych: Court conditions were "extremely tough"

Sixth seed Tomas Berdych admits that the conditions on court towards the end of his first-round Wimbledon match were "extremely tough".

Tomas Berdych has described conditions towards the end of his first-round match at Wimbledon as "extremely tough".

The sixth seed finished his four-set clash with Jeremy Chardy at 9.29pm in fading light, setting up a meeting with Nicolas Mahut in the next round.

The Czech told reporters: "The whole match was very difficult. It was a good test for me. The conditions were extremely tough from the beginning.

"The shadow on the court at the start of the match with the bright sun was difficult. Jeremy played extremely well and we finished almost in the dark. Extremely tough conditions."

Berdych was the runner-up at Wimbledon in 2010, losing to Rafael Nadal in the final.
