Maria Sharapova has eased through to the second round of the US Open after a straight-sets win over Maria Kirilenko.
The Russian saw off her opponent 6-4 6-0 as she dominated the final second set with a ruthless display against her compatriot.
A back-and-forth first set saw Sharapova edge out Kirilenko in the first after coming back to level at 4-4, but the former Wimbledon champion was in supreme form in the second as she won the final 10 games to book her place in the next round.
Sharapova will now face Alexandra Dulgheru in the second round.
