Ivan Lendl believes that Andy Murray is 'ready' to claim his first Grand Slam title ahead of the US Open final against Novak Djokovic.

Andy Murray is "ready" to win the US Open and end Britain's 74-year wait for a Grand Slam champion, according to coach Ivan Lendl.

The Scotsman, who has lost in four previous major finals, faces Novak Djokovic at Flushing Meadows tonight after overcoming Tomas Berdych in the last four.

Lendl, who himself lost in four finals before breaking his Grand Slam duck, believes that the lessons learned from Murray's quartet of defeats give him a better chance of victory than ever before.

He said: "If you look at his losses he has been beaten by Roger Federer three times and Novak Djokovic.

"After Wimbledon I said to him he should be proud of the way he handled the pressure because there was a big difference between that loss and the one he had to Djokovic in Australia the previous year.

"Andy is ready to go and win. The lesson he learned from the Wimbledon final was a tough one but he learned it well."
