Johanna Konta: 'I enjoyed the nerves'

British number two Johanna Konta insists that she 'enjoyed the nerves' when trying to close out victory against Andrea Petkovic in the US Open fourth round.

Johanna Konta has admitted that she found it difficult to seal victory against Andrea Petkovic as she finally reached the US Open fourth round on her sixth match point.

Konta recorded the biggest win of her career in seeing off the 18th seed, but despite acknowledging her nerves, the British number two insisted that she enjoyed being involved in such a tense situation.

The 24-year-old told Sky Sports News: "It was very hard to get over the line. Credit to her, she wasn't feeling her best but she is still one of the biggest fighters out there.

"I'm just really happy to have stayed as calm as I did because it wasn't easy. There were a lot of nerves but at the same time, I was enjoying it and I enjoyed the situation. I'm just happy I am through."

Konta will now play Petra Kvitova for a place in the quarter-finals at Flushing Meadows.
