Kevin Anderson: 'Reaching top 10 in world rankings would be a dream'

US Open quarter-finalist Kevin Anderson admits that reaching the top 10 in the world rankings would fulfil "a lifelong dream".

Kevin Anderson has said that the top 10 in the world rankings feels within his grasp after reaching the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time.

On Monday night, Anderson recorded a surprise four-set victory over Andy Murray to reach the last eight at the US Open, and the South African has admitted that he has given himself the chance to achieve what he calls "a lifelong dream".

The 29-year-old is quoted by ITV Sport as saying: "Top 10 has been a lifelong dream for me. I feel like I'm getting closer - even top five, I think that's ultimately where I want to be.

"So we try to structure and think that way. Obviously it's a lot of tennis and a lot of wins to get there, but I feel like I've definitely been on a good run and I'm giving myself the best opportunity to get there."

Anderson would move into a tie for ninth place in the ATP standings if he can beat Stanislas Wawrinka on Wednesday.
