Maria Sharapova eases to Olympics second round

Maria Sharapova of Russia affords Israel's Shahar Peer just two games in advancing to the second round of women's singles of the Olympics.

Russia's Maria Sharapova made light work of Shahar Peer of Israel to advance to the second round of the Olympic women's singles at Wimbledon.

The former Wimbledon champion began badly, losing her serve in the opening game before responding with a break of her own in the next.

She broke the Israeli's serve again at the next time of asking before wrapping up the opening set in 34 minutes by breaking in the eighth game for a 6-2 success.

The Russian picked up where she left off at the start of the second, not affording her opponent a single game in the set under the Centre Court roof as she romped to victory.

The third seed will next face either Great Britain's Laura Robson or Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic at the All England Club.
