Heather Watson loses in first round in Miami

British number three Heather Watson loses 6-4 6-0 to France's Virginie Razzano in the first round of the Sony Open in Miami.

Heather Watson has lost 6-4 6-0 in just 43 minutes in the first round at the Sony Open in Miami to Virginie Razzano.

The British number three took a 3-1 lead in the first set as the qualifier struggled early on, but the French player soon found her rhythm, clinching five of the next six games to wrap up the opener.

The 21-year-old never looked like getting back into the match, as she made a series of double faults and unforced errors, gifting Razzano the second set without taking a single game.

Watson beat the 30-year-old at Indian Wells just two weeks ago, but was unable to get the better of Razzano, who is ranked 40 places higher than her, for a second time this month.
