Serena Williams brushes aside Monaco Niculescu in Miami

Serena Williams barely breaks sweat as she sweeps aside Monica Niculescu 6-3 6-1 to advance into the third round of the Miami Masters.

Serena Williams remains on course to defend her Miami Masters title after beating Monica Niculescu in straight sets to reach the third round.

The world number one edged out the 70th seed with a comfortable 6-3 6-1 victory in one hour and 23 minutes this evening.

The pair broke one another's serve in the fourth and fifth game as the 2014 champion led 3-2, before another break of serve in the eighth game helped Williams move into a first-set lead.

The second set started in the same vein when the American broke her Romainian counterpart in the first game to move 1-0 ahead.

Niculescu struggled to get to grips with her opponent's power and Williams inflicted three breaks of serve en route to clinching the match.
