Igor Andreev was forced to retire with injury during his round two match at the Madrid Open against Frenchman Gael Monfils this afternoon.
The Russian struggled from the outset as he surrendered his serve early in the set to his opponent.
Monfils went on to press home that advantage by serving out to claim the set 6-3.
The 25-year-old won the opening game of the second set before Andreev decided that he could no longer continue.
Monfils will now take on number six seed Tomas Berdych in the next round.
