Tomas Berdych overcome the challenge of South Africa's Kevin Anderson to advance through to round three of the Madrid Open this evening.
The current world number seven claimed the decisive break midway through the opening set, before going on take the lead courtesy of a 6-4 success.
Anderson failed to respond in the next set as he surrendered two of his service games to his opponent from the Czech Republic.
That allowed Berdych, who held all of his service games, to wrap up the victory 6-4 6-3 in the Spanish capital.
He will now face the winner of Gael Monfils versus Igor Andreev in the next round.
