Britain's Andy Murray says that he played well at the Madrid Masters despite losing to Tomas Berdych in the quarter-finals.

Andy Murray has insisted that he is pleased with his performances at the Madrid Masters despite losing in the quarter-finals.

The British number one was knocked out in straight sets by Tomas Berdych yesterday evening.

The 25-year-old told Sky Sports News: "This week was better than Monte Carlo, so it's going in the right direction. Tomas is a very good clay court player, and it was a close match. I had my chances.

"I think I'm playing okay. Some things I would like to do better, but I did play very well in practice in the build-up to this tournament. I played a lot of sets with a lot of tough players and I played very well."

Murray has lost all three of his meetings with Berdych on clay.
