Great Britain's Francesca Jones produced the upset of the day at the Copa Colsanitas in Bogota, knocking out third seed Nuria Parrizas-Diaz in the first round.
The 22-year-old - who is ranked 817th in the world - won 7-6[3] 6-1 in one hour and 47 minutes against the Spaniard, who sits 737 places higher than her in the WTA standings.
Jones, who has competed exclusively in ITF events since losing in the first round of Australian Open qualifying, racked up a staggering 14 double faults on the day, but she fired six aces and saved seven of the 11 break points she faced.
Jones and Parrizas-Diaz traded four breaks each during a topsy-turvy first set, but the Brit clinched her second set point in the tie-breaker, and her 80th-ranked counterpart was subsequently blown away.
With Parrizas-Diaz winning just 27% of points behind her first serve in the second set, Jones powered into a 3-0 lead and earned the double break for a comprehensive 5-1 advantage shortly after.
Parrizas-Diaz had three chances to break Jones while she was serving for the match, but the Brit saved all three and converted her second match point to set up a tie with either Carol Zhao or Maria Carle in the last 16.
Jones hit a career-high ranking of world number 149 in February 2022, and she played in the first round of the Australian Open and Wimbledon in 2021 - her only main draw Grand Slam appearances to date.
