Former world number one Roger Federer has slumped to another early defeat - this time at his home tournament, the Swiss Open.
The 31-year-old was beaten 6-3 6-4 by world number 55 German professional Daniel Brands in the second round of the competition.
The blow means that the current world number five has recorded his third straight tournament exit against a player who is ranked outside the top 50 in the Tour.
The clash, which lasted just over an hour, was part of Federer's preparations for the US Open that gets underway on August 26.
