Pablo Andujar surprised by Madrid Open progress

Pablo Andujar expresses his surprise at reaching the Madrid Open semi-finals following Friday's 6-3 7-5 victory over 14th seed Kei Nishikori.

Pablo Andujar has expressed his surprise at reaching the Madrid Open semi-finals following a straight-sets victory over Kei Nishikori.

The wildcard entry continued his run at the tournament on Friday by knocking out the Japanese 14th seed 6-3 7-5.

"I really enjoyed it out on court and that I think made the difference," Andujar told Sky Sports News. "It's a big surprise for me to get this far. It's the first time I've reached the semi-finals, or even the quarter-finals.

"I was feeling good so thought I could win some matches, but never thought I could get this far."

Andujar's reward for beating Nishikori is a semi-final meeting with fellow Spaniard Rafael Nadal.
