Kevin Anderson has knocked Lleyton Hewitt out of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells.

The world number 18 got the better of his Australian opponent 7-6(5) 6-4 to book his place in the third round.

Hewitt took the first set to a tie-breaker and saved five points as he fought to hold for 4-5 in the second, but was eventually beaten by the South African.

Anderson will take on Evgeny Donskoy for a place in the fourth round of the tournament.
