Defending champion Maria Sharapova booked her place in round two of the French Open thanks to a 6-2 6-1 victory over Hsieh Su-Wei this evening.
The second seed started the clash the brighter of the two players and went on to break her Taiwanese opponent on two occasions as she claimed the opening set in 28 minutes.
Sharapova continued to dominate proceedings during the second set and she lost just one game on her way to securing her spot in the next round of the competition.
The 26-year-old will now take on Canada's Eugenie Bouchard on Wednesday.
