Stanislas Wawrinka reaches French Open final

Stanislas Wawrinka overcomes Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in four sets to reach the French Open final.

Stanislas Wawrinka has recorded a four-set win over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to reach the final of the French Open.

The eighth seed ran out a 6-3 6-7 7-6 6-4 victor to reach his second Grand Slam final after previously winning the Australian Open in 2014.

Wawrinka, who recorded a stunning win over Roger Federer in the last eight, started strongly by breaking serve in the fourth game and that proved the difference as he took the opening set.

The Swiss number two also opened up an advantage at the start of the second but Tsonga fought back to force a tie-break, which he won with ease as the partisan French crowd sensed a momentum shift.

Neither man could break through during a tight third set, but after the opening six points of the tie-break were shared, Wawrinka reeled off four points in a row to edge closer to the final.

Wawrinka immediately moved a break ahead in the fourth and although Tsonga had a number of chances to break back, the 30-year-old held on to set up a final with either Novak Djokovic or Andy Murray.
