Petra Kvitova has reached the third round of the Cincinnati Open following a tough three-set victory over Mona Barthel.
Kvitova endured a torrid time out on court for the first set as two service breaks saw her trail 5-1. The 2011 Wimbledon champion pulled one of the breaks back but ultimately lost the set 3-6.
However, she broke Barthel twice in the second to level the match 6-2 before taking the final set 7-5.
Kvitova will meet either Peng Shuai or Roberta Vinci for a place in the last eight.
