Stanislas Wawrinka delighted with "great" start to defence of title

Stanislas Wawrinka reveals his delight after beginning the defence of his Australian Open title with a straight-sets win over Marsel Ilhan.

Stanislas Wawrinka has admitted that he was pleased with the start of his defence after beating Marsel Ilhan in the first round of the Australian Open.

The 2014 winner was too strong for his Turkish opponent as he cruised to a straight-sets victory in Melbourne, and he was delighted to find his form once again.

"I played some good tennis and I have confidence with my game in general. That's what I did today. It was not so hot. A little bit humid, a little bit windy. But, yeah, it was a good match," Wawrinka told reporters.

"I know in a Grand Slam it can be a long two weeks if you want to go far in the tournament. You need to be focused on every match, every point. Today I think was great.

"I'm ready for [the] Australian Open, ready for a new tournament to start. That's most important, to be focused for that. As I say, it can be a long two weeks. Grand Slams are never easy. You need to be focused on what you're doing."

Wawrinka will meet Marius Copil or Pablo Andujar in the second round.
