Naomi Osaka advances to the third round of the 2022 Australian Open after sinking American Madison Brengle 6-0 6-4 on Wednesday.

Reigning Australian Open champion Naomi Osaka booked her place in the third round of the 2022 tournament after seeing off American Madison Brengle in straight sets.

After coming up trumps against Camila Osorio in round one, Osaka served Brengel a bagel in a 6-0 first-set win before the American fought back during a thrilling second set.

However, with Brengle serving to stay in the game at 4-5, Osaka broke the frustrated 31-year-old's serve with ease to march to a 6-0 6-4 win, taking five of her seven break points on the day.

"Honestly I returned pretty well – I've been really working on it during the off season so I'm glad it came off today," Osaka said during her post-match on-court interview.

"I'm a bit of a perfectionist, if I compare myself to the past I'll never be satisfied so I'm just trying to take it one day at a time. The goal for me is just to have fun and I think me and my team are accomplishing that."

Osaka will now pit her wits against Brengle's compatriot Amanda Anisimova in the third round before a potential meeting with world number one Ashleigh Barty in round four.
