Johanna Konta 'emotionally drained' after reaching Australian Open quarter-final

Britain's Johanna Konta admits that she feels 'emotionally drained' after earning a spot in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open.

Johanna Konta has admitted that she feels 'emotionally drained' after earning a spot in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open in Melbourne.

The 24-year-old became the first British woman since 1984 to reach the final eight of a Grand Slam when she sealed a 4-6 6-4 8-6 victory over Ekaterina Makarova on Monday.

Konta, who took three hours and four minutes to claim the win, will face either Madison Keys or Zhang Shuai in the next round.

"It was mentally, emotionally and physically draining," BBC Sport quotes Konta as saying.

"Those four minutes were important, believe me. I left it all out there on court, ran after every single ball and was fortunate enough to capitalise on some opportunities."

Before today, Konta had never gone further than the fourth round of a Grand Slam.
