Kei Nishikori eases past Stanislas Wawrinka at ATP World Tour Finals

Kei Nishikori begins his campaign at the ATP World Tour Finals with a straight-sets win over Stanislas Wawrinka.

Kei Nishikori has eased to a straight-sets victory over Stanislas Wawrinka at the ATP World Tour Finals.

The Japanese player dominated from start to finish against the US Open champion, who succumbed to a 6-2 6-3 defeat in London.

The Swiss had some tape on a left leg injury but despite seeming to be unhampered by any issue, he had no answer to Nishikori's shot-making from the back of the court and the fifth seed secured two breaks of serve to take the opener.

Wawrinka improved at the start of the second but after blowing a 40-15 lead on serve in the fifth game, he struggled to keep with his opponent and Nishikori was able to secure a fourth break of the match to close the contest out in just 67 minutes.

Nishikori can end the year at number three in the world rankings with victory at the O2 Arena this week.
