New world number one Andy Murray is looking forward to the ATP World Tour Finals as he bids to end his career-best season with his first title in the London tournament.

New world number one Andy Murray has said that he is looking forward to the upcoming ATP World Tour Finals event in London.

Murray has never won the season-ending competition, but goes into this year's edition off the back of a career-best season that has seen him win a second Wimbledon crown, retain his Olympic title and dethrone Novak Djokovic as the number one player in the world.

Djokovic could reclaim top spot if he successfully defends his title in London, but Murray will end the year as number one if he is able to match or better the Serb's run following his triumph at the Paris Masters last week.

"It's obviously nice for that to happen and to get to play in London being ranked one. Once you get out on the court though you're not thinking about your ranking, you're playing against the best players in the world," Murray told ATP TV.

"Every match is extremely tough and I'll look forward to getting out there. It's always an amazing atmosphere at the O2, we get great crowds there so it'll be good fun. I'm trying to take a few days rest now.

"Obviously I finished on Sunday in Paris. I'll start hitting again on Thursday. I need a few days break now and will start practising again nearer the weekend. It's one big final push for all the guys in the event. It's been a lot of tennis for everyone this year so hopefully everyone plays well."

Murray has been drawn in the John McEnroe group for the tournament, alongside Stanislas Wawrinka, Kei Nishikori and Marin Cilic.
