Jamie Murray delighted to reach world number one with Bruno Soares

Jamie Murray says that it is "pretty exciting" for himself and Bruno Soares to be regarded as the world's best doubles team.

Jamie Murray has admitted that he and Bruno Soares immediately "hit it off" when they began their doubles partnership at the start of the year.

On Friday, it was confirmed that Murray and Soares would end 2016 at the top of the world rankings, and they will now look to win the end-of-season ATP World Tour Finals in London.

The pair have already secured two Grand Slam titles this year, and Murray has acknowledged that their triumph at the Australian Open in January gave them confidence for the rest of the season.

The 30-year-old is quoted by Sky Sports News as saying: "It takes time to develop a partnership. We were fortunate to hit it off on the right note at the beginning of the year and it gave us a lot of confidence.

"We knew we could do good things on the court together and the number one ranking shows that. We'll try and compete this weekend to win the ATP World Tour Finals. It's pretty exciting to be the number one team."

Murray and Soares are back in action when the semi-finals at the O2 Arena get underway on Saturday.
