Michael Phelps has taken the gold in the men's 100m butterfly, the final individual event of his competitive career.
The 27-year-old claimed his 17th gold medal with a time of 51.21s, just ahead of South Africa's Chad Le Clos and Russia's Evgeny Korotyshkin, who were tied for silver on 51.44s.
Phelps's victory comes three days after Le Clos pipped him to the 200m butterfly gold by 1/20th of a second.
The Baltimore Bullet will compete in his final event, the men's 4x100m medley relay, tomorrow (Saturday) night.
