Adam Peaty breaks Commonwealth Games record to secure final place

England's Adam Peaty breaks the Commonwealth Games record in the 100m breaststroke to book his place in the final, while Scotland's Ross Murdoch also reaches the race.

Team England's Adam Peaty has qualified for the men's 100m breaststroke final by breaking the Commonwealth Games record in Glasgow.

The 19-year-old stormed to victory in the second semi-final in a time of 59.16s to set up him for a chance at a medal in Saturday's race at the Tollcross Swimming Centre.

Ross Murdoch also secured his place in the final by finishing first in the first semi-final with a time of 59.72s as he looks for his second medal of the Games.

Scotland's Craig Benson, England's James Wilby and Wales's Rob Holderness also made it through to the final, but there is no place for Michael Jamieson as he finished 11th overall out of the 16 competitors.
