South Africa flanker Arno Botha will spend the rest of the year on the sidelines after rupturing knee ligaments against Scotland on Saturday.

South Africa coach Heyneke Meyer has revealed that Arno Botha will spend the rest of the year on the sidelines after rupturing knee ligaments against Scotland on Saturday.

The 21-year-old, who made his debut against Italy the previous week, will undergo an operation this week to repair the damage.

"Losing Arno is a big blow as he had a very good Test debut last weekend against Italy," Meyer told reporters at a press conference.

"Luckily he is still very young and I'm sure with the correct medical treatment and rehabilitation we will see him back on the field again in 2014."

Meyer represents the Bulls in Super Rugby.
