Tom Varndell hat-trick secures Wasps win over London Welsh

Wasps overcome the relegated London Welsh 40-13 in their Aviva Premiership fixture, as Tom Varndell scores a hat-trick of tries at the Kassam Stadium.

Wasps have overcome the relegated London Welsh 40-13 in their Aviva Premiership match, as Tom Varndell scored a hat-trick of tries at the Kassam Stadium this afternoon.

Scores from Ashley Johnson, Alapati Leiua and Sailosi Tagicakibau completed the comprehensive victory over the hosts, who could only break the Wasps' defence twice as Opeti Fonua and Chris Elder bundled over.

Wasps were ruthless in their attack from the off, as Varndell grabbed his first try of the match just three minutes in, with Andy Goode successfully converting from the right-hand side.

The winger then managed to double his try tally less than seven minutes later, as he was found with space in front of him to make it 12-0.

The home side responded positively, pinning the visitors back and were eventually rewarded for their hard work, as Fonua went over in the corner but the conversion was unsuccessful to make the score 12-5 at half time.

Wasps started the second half how they began the first, as Johnson got his name on the scoresheet 10 minutes after the restart.

Varndell sealed his hat-trick not long after, with Tagicakibau also getting amongst the action.

The visitors completed the rout as Leiua scored with the last play of the game, making the final score 40-13.
