Chris Whitehead says that the Exeter Chiefs were left frustrated after their defeat to Northampton Saints on Sunday.

Exeter Chiefs hooker Chris Whitehead has revealed that his side was left frustrated after their loss to Northampton Saints.

Rob Baxter's side threw away a half-time lead as the Saints came from behind to record a 24-21 victory at Franklin's Gardens.

While Whitehead knows that it was a missed opportunity for the Devon outfit, he admits that there are positives to take away from the defeat.

"The overall feeling in the dressing room after the game was one of frustration and missed opportunities as that was as good a chance as any to come away with a victory," Whitehead said.

"In our first season in the Premiership if we had come away from Northampton with a losing bonus point it would have almost felt as though we had won the World Cup. But the third time around it is a different story and we were frustrated come the final whistle because we felt they had scored through our mistakes. Fair play to Northampton for making the most of them and that is what the top sides do, they punish you for your errors and make you pay.

"But although we did lose there were still plenty of positives to take away from it all, the fact we look capable of scoring a fair few tries being one of them, but it is just a shame that it felt as though it was one that got away - even though there is certainly nothing to panic about."

Next up for Chiefs is a trip to London Welsh on Sunday.
