Warren Gatland praises his British and Irish Lions following their victory over the Waratahs.

British and Irish Lions coach Warren Gatland has praised his squad for an impressive performance against the Waratahs.

The Lions secured a 47-17 victory in Sydney today, with Alun Wyn Jones receiving individual praise from his boss.

"They put it up to us physically and I think the boys responded very well," The Metro quotes Gatland as saying. "I think that was a performance out of the top drawer.

"Defensively we were strong, we were coming off our line pretty well and set pieces were excellent. The scum and line-out was also good. I think Alun Wyn Jones was outstanding though. He carried and defended really well – he was a real cog in the middle for us."

The Lions' first Test against Australia is on June 22.
