Mick Potter "embarrassed" by Brendan Guilfoyle request

Mick Potter says that it is impossible for him to stay on at Bradford Bulls and work for free.

Mick Potter has revealed his embarrassment at being asked to stay on by Bradford Bulls' administrator Brendan Guilfoyle to work for nothing.

The Australian was one of 16 staff members made made redundant this afternoon as the club attempts to come out of administration.

Potter said that joint administrator Guilfoyle had asked him to work without pay, but that was something he could not do.

"This is a sad day for rugby and I am sceptical and am not sure if we should have been here," Potter told Telegraph & Argus. "I was embarrassed that he asked me as I am sure he is not working for nothing. I physically could not do that.

"That would be impossible and I don't think anyone should be allowed or asked to work for nothing - the administrator asked me.

"I have been stabbed in the front. There is something going on here definitely that is not right. The tough period has probably been the last six to eight weeks but the fans have been the best we have known with their support."

Potter had one year remaining on his contract at the Odsal Stadium.
