Un De Sceaux wins The Arkle

Un De Sceaux's victory in The Arkle makes it two wins from two races for Ruby Walsh at the Cheltenham Festival.

Ruby Walsh made it two wins from two races at this year's Cheltenham Festival by winning the The Racing Post Arkle Challenge on board Un De Sceaux this afternoon.

The seven-year-old was the pre-race favourite as a result of impressive recent outings at Fairyhouse and Leopardstown.

Having been in front from early on, the Willie Mullins-trained bay gelding came under pressure from 33-1 shot God's Own as they jumped the second from last fence. However, Un de Sceaux responded by picking up the pace to eventually ease to victory.

"He has a good turn of foot. I wasn't going that hard, but I knew when I gave him a squeeze coming off the bend he was going to quicken up," Walsh told Channel 4.

"He's not an easy horse, but he's a pleasure to ride. Once he's looking where he's going, I'm happy."

God's Own held on for second spot, while Josses Hill took third.
