United States fans want airport renamed after Tim Howard

A group of USA fans start a White House petition to rename an American airport after Tim Howard following the goalkeeper's record-breaking display at the World Cup.

A White House petition to rename an American airport after Tim Howard has been set up following his heroic performance in their World Cup last-16 loss to Belgium.

The 35-year-old made a record-breaking 15 saves in the match, but the improving United States came up just short of causing an upset as they lost 2-1 in extra time.

A group of USA fans want the Everton goalkeeper honoured with the rebranding of Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

"We politely request that we rename the airport to recognise his accomplishments, and meritorious service to the United States of America," the petition states.

Any US citizen can create a petition on the "We the People" site and the administration will respond if the number of signatures reaches 100,000, but they are currently 98,000 short of that target.
