Ex-Newcastle stopper Pavel Srnicek fighting for life following heart attack

Former Newcastle United goalkeeper Pavel Srnicek is in a 'critical condition' in hospital after suffering a heart attack in his native Czech Republic.

Former Newcastle United goalkeeper Pavel Srnicek is in a "critical" condition in hospital after suffering a heart attack, according to his agent.

The 47-year-old, who represented Newcastle between 1991 and 1998, is believed to have been running in his native Czech Republic when he collapsed.

The Sun have quoted Srnicek's agent Steve Wraith as saying that the situation was "critical" when he was admitted to the Ostrava-Poruba hospital.

A spokesperson at the hospital also added: "I can confirm that he is hospitalised in our hospital, but on the wishes of the family will not disclose details of his condition."

Srnicek had been in Newcastle earlier this month promoting his new autobiography, before returning to his homeland for the Christmas break.
