Everton 'close to £200m takeover'

Everton owner Bill Kenwright is reportedly close to a £200m sale of the club to a British-Iranian entrepreneur.

Everton are poised to announce that they have a new owner in the next few days, according to The Telegraph.

British-Iranian businessman Farhad Moshiri is believed to be in pole position to secure a £200m takeover from current owner Bill Kenwright, beating off competition from an American consortium led by former San Diego Padres owner John Jay Moores.

Moshiri, who has an estimated wealth of £1.3 billion, sold his stake in Arsenal to the Gunners' second-largest shareholder Alisher Usmanov on Friday to secure the £200m needed for a takeover at Goodison Park.

The newspaper claims that Moshiri will allow Kenwright, who purchased the Toffees for £20m in 1999, to remain on as chairman in the short term.

Kenwright previously said that he would sell to "the right person" if they put forward a proposal for serious investment into the club.
