Newcastle United striker Papiss Cisse puts his shirt up for auction to raise funds for charity Friends for Sedhiou.

Newcastle United striker Papiss Cisse has put one of his matchday shirts up for auction in order to raise money for charity Friends of Sedhiou.

The Senegal international is eager to help improve the local hospital by donating equipment through the charity.

"As it stands, the hospital is not equipped to deal with many cases it encounters," a spokesman for Friends of Sedhiou told The Chronicle.

"As a result of this it has to transport the patients to a larger hospital in Dakar, which is four to five hours' drive from Sedhiou.

"Tragically, some patients do not survive the journey. It is this injustice which Papiss and the Friends of Sedhiou would like to rectify. Improvements to the ambulance, and additional resources and equipment at the hospital would do this."

Meanwhile, Cisse was forced to miss the Magpies' 2-1 defeat to Swansea City after Senegal invoked the five-day rule after he failed to turn up for international duty because of a back problem.
