Mauritania president 'orders penalties 63 minutes into match because of boredom'

Mauritania president Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz reportedly orders a football match to go into a penalty shootout in the 63rd minute because of boredom.

Mauritania president Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz reportedly ordered for a penalty shootout to take place 63 minutes into a football match because he was bored.

The game between FC Tevragh-Zeina and ACS Ksar was stopped abruptly in the second half with the contest at 1-1.

According to the Daily Star, Aziz ordered the match officials to signal penalties as he was not impressed with the slow pace of the game.

However, the Mauritanian federation's president Ahmed Ould Abderrahmane denied the reports, claiming: "I deny in the strongest terms the intervention of the president of the republic. The decision was made due to organisational issues in accordance with the presidents and the coaches of the two teams."

The spectators are said to have been left fuming once the decision was made.
