Manchester City unveil new Nike third kit for cup competitions

Manchester City unveil a new Nike purple third kit to wear in away matches during cup competitions.

Manchester City have unveiled a new Nike third kit designed for the club's involvement in cup competitions.

The Premier League champions have unveiled the strip prior to their first Champions League group game against Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

The away kit features two tones of purple, with a lime green stripe on both sides of the kit, which has a purple tab pennant labelled 'We Are City' inside the back of the neck.

Nike's creative director for Global Football Martin Lotti said: "This half-half appearance is a traditional football design, but we added a new twist. We wanted to utilize vibrant colour so these kits look brighter at night against the grass and under floodlights.

"Under a dark sky these kits will look electric, as if powered by batteries, and will provide an almost electric flash of colour on the pitch."

City could don the new strip when they take on Bayern at the Allianz Arena this week.
