Manchester City teenager Courtney Meppen-Walter has been sentenced to 16 months in prison for causing death by careless driving.

The 18-year-old pleaded guilty to causing the deaths of Kulwant Singh, 32, and his sister Ravel Kaur, 37, in a car crash last September.

Meppen-Walter was speeding at 56mph in his Mercedes Elegance in a 30mph zone when he hit a Nissan Micra, driven by Singh, who was travelling with his sister and her two sons, 16 and 17, who were both injured in the crash.

While a five-year jail term was a possible outcome, Manchester Crown Court sentenced the youth player to 16 months in prison, according to Sky Sports News.

Meppen-Walter, who passed his driving test less than a year before the incident, has not made a first-team appearance for the Premier League champions.
