The families of the Hillsborough victims have reportedly put forward an official complaint regarding alleged police surveillance after the tragedy back in 1989.
Ninety-six Liverpool fans died as a result of a crush during an FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest in the Hillsborough ground almost 25 years ago.
Revelations emerged in 2012 claiming that negligence from the authorities contributed to the disaster, which eventually led to the original 'accidental' verdicts being quashed.
It has now emerged that lawyers representing 12 of the families have made a complaint, which is said to have included alleged phone tapping.
"This is not a case where there was any implication or suggestion of wrong-doing by any of the complainants and if surveillance took place it was both unjustified and malevolent," BBC News quotes Broudie Jackson Canter solicitors as saying.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission are believed to be looking into the claims after receiving a letter.
Fresh inquests into the tragedy are due to begin on March 31.
