Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has apologised for sharing The Sun's video of Wayne Rooney appearing to get knocked out due to the widespread boycott of the newspaper on Merseyside.
Liverpool fans are known to shun the national publication following its shocking unproven claims about how the supporters behaved in the 1989 Hillsborough tragedy, where 96 Reds fans died.
Over the weekend, the newspaper published footage of Rooney appearing to get knocked to the ground following a punch from Stoke City defender Phil Bardsley while the two were sparring in the Manchester United striker's home.
Carragher shared The Sun's video on Twitter and offered Rooney some boxing tips, but he later removed the tweet and posted the message: "Apologies on the Rooney clip for obvious reasons. Deleted now."
Barnsley's wife Tanya has tried to calm the furore surrounding the video by claiming that it was a joke between friends.
