Fenerbahce's Mehmet Topal survives car being shot at

Fenerbahce midfielder Mehmet Topal and a youth player escape unhurt after the car that they were travelling in comes under fire from gunmen.

Fenerbahce have confirmed that midfielder Mehmet Topal was the victim of a gun attack as he left the club's Istanbul training base earlier today.

According to The Guardian, the 29-year-old, who was accompanied by youth player Uygar Mert Zeybek, was at the toll booth on the main road from Samandira when unknown gunmen opened fire on his vehicle.

The two players, both of whom were unharmed, have given statements to the police, but as yet the assailants have not been caught.

In a statement, their Turkish employers said: "This was a terrorist attack. We condemn these armed attacks on our players and hope justice will prevail.

"Our players Mehmet Topal and Uygar Mert Zeybek were fortunate to be travelling in a vehicle with bulletproof glass which prevented serious injury."

The incident is the second that Topal has experienced of this nature in a matter of months, having been on the Fenerbahce team bus when it suffered an armed attack back in April.ID:238620: cacheID:238620:1false2false3false:QQ:: from db desktop :LenBod:restore:2392:
