England bowler Liam Plunkett has revealed that he offered his father a kidney while he was suffering from an illness in 2007.

Alan Plunkett will watch his son play for England for the first time later this week after receiving the transplant two years ago.

The 29-year-old told reporters: "I thought he'd be there last week. But they'd booked to go to Cyprus and they don't show Sky Sports there, so I don't think he's seen it.

"Dialysis is just tedious, and ties up your life, you can't really go away with your family. He lives about an hour away from Headingley, so I'll be disappointed if he didn't pop in.

"He said to me on the phone the other day, 'I honestly thought you probably wouldn't play for England again. You've proved me wrong, and I'm over the moon for you'. I'm upset that he didn't back me!"

Plunkett was recently recalled to the England squad after a seven-year absence.
