England captain Alastair Cook has declared on 267-8 to set Sri Lanka a total of 390 to win the first Test at Lord's.

Cook has decided to declare on his side's overnight total to give the tourists a full day at the crease.

Gary Ballance hit his maiden Test century to help England recover on day four, after they had fallen to 117-5 at tea.

The 24-year-old was supported by Stuart Broad and Liam Plunkett as England added 150 runs in the evening session.

Ballance's unbeaten knock of 104 came off 189 balls.
