CBS takes over the US broadcast of the Champions League and Europa League effective immediately after the existing rights holder pulls out.

CBS has brought forward its deal with UEFA to broadcast the Champions League and Europa League across the USA to become effective immediately.

The broadcaster already had an agreement to take over US coverage of the elite competitions from 2021-22 until 2023-24 at a reported cost of $150m (£119m) a season.

Existing rights holder Turner Sports pulled out of the arrangement around a fortnight ago after the coronavirus crisis wreaked havoc with the established football schedule and now CBS have concluded an agreement to start their coverage a year earlier than planned.

As a result of the deal, CBS will be able to broadcast the delayed end to both competitions for the 2019-20 season - due to be played as mini-tournaments in August - as well as full coverage of the 2020-21 season.

CBS Sports chairman Sean McManus said: "This is a landmark acquisition for CBS as we add the world's most popular sport to our extensive portfolio of marquee properties."

All games will be streamed live on the premium service CBS All Access, with select matches also being shown on CBS and the CBS Sports Network.
