Gay snowboarder Belle Brockhoff: 'My parents are worried about me in Sochi'

Openly gay snowboarder Belle Brockhoff says that her parents are "worried" about her competing in Sochi at the Winter Olympics due to Russia's anti-gay laws.

Openly gay snowboarder Belle Brockhoff has revealed that her parents are "worried" about her competing at the Sochi Winter Olympics 2014 due to Russia's anti-gay laws.

The country has come under scrutiny ahead of the Games due to the legislation that bans gay 'propaganda' towards children.

The Australian has claimed that she will not speak out against the Russian laws during the event, but has revealed that her parents are concerned

"I want to go there because I'm not afraid of these laws and I want others that live in Russia, who are homosexuals, to see that," Brockhoff told BBC Sport. "I'm sure [Vladimir] Putin's already reading about me or other athletes who have said things."

The snowboarder claimed that her father fears that the media will "crucify" her and that her mother is concerned that her daughter could be singled out by Russian police.
