Team GB's Kelly Edwards reaches last 16

Team GB's Kelly Edwards is through to the round of 16 at the European Games after beating Zhanna Stankevich of Armenia by a yuko in the first round.

Team GB's Kelly Edwards has won her opening-round match in the women's -52kg judo event at the European Games in Baku.

The 24-year-old connected for a yuko early in the bout, securing her victory over Zhanna Stankevich of Armenia in the Heydar Aliyev Arena.

Edwards needed to score after giving away a shido just a few seconds into the meeting, but never looked under pressure once she had taken the lead as Stankevick failed to find her rhythm.

The Commonwealth Games silver medallist will face Larisa Florian of Romania in the last 16 later this morning.
