Team GB's Colin Oates wins opening judo clash

Team GB's Colin Oates is through to the round of 16 in the men's -66kg judo event after a winning by yuko over Belgium's Kenneth van Gansbeke.

Team GB's Colin Oates has booked his place in the last 16 in the men's -66kg judo competition at the European Games in Baku this morning.

The 32-year-old scored a yuko less than three minutes into his meeting with Kenneth van Gansbeke, which proved enough to beat the Belgian.

He will face Portugal's Sergiu Oleinic for a spot in the quarter-finals later this morning.

Oates is a former bronze medallist in the European Championship, and narrowly missed out on a spot on the podium at the 2012 Olympics.
